Patient Information Meeting - Birmingham

A very successful meeting was held on the 10th September 2011 at the City Hospital Birmingham Postgraduate Centre

The meeting was chaired by Mr Durrani.  Speakers were Dr K Bolaert,Senior Clinical Lecturer and Hon Consultant, University of Birmingham (Endocrine Background to Thyroid Eye Disease),

Mr M Edmunds, MRC Research Fellow and Specialty Registrar in Ophthalmology Birmingham Eye Centre (Current Research in the Field of Thyroid Eye Disease),Mr O Durrani Consultant Oculplastic and Orbit Surgeon Birmingham Eye Centre (Overview of Surgical Approaches to Thyroid Eye Disease.

The surgical talk was followed by a very lively session of patients' questions.   The second half of the meeting comprised a talk by Mrs P Mehta,Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon ,University Hospital ,Coventry and Warwickshire NHS trust (Current and Future Therapies for Thyroid Eye Disease). 

At the end of the meeting the highlight was a talk by one of Mr Durrani's patients about her experience of Thyoid Eye Disease and her treatment in Birmingham. This was very moving .

The next patient day will be in Bristol in March and we hope you can join us .
